Michael Covello, born 1986 in Oyster Bay, NY, is an internationally exhibiting interdisciplinary contemporary artist. Covello studied at the School of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University, receiving his BFA in 2008, and the University of South Florida, receiving his MFA in 2013. He currently lives and works in Pennsylvania and New York as an Assistant Professor of Art with Kutztown University in the areas of Drawing, Works on Paper, Animation, and Visual Storytelling.
Covello has been twice nominated by the American Academy of Arts and Letters for awards and exhibitions and is the recipient of an Individual Artist Grant from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and a grant from the Vermont Studio Center. Recent exhibitions include the New Art Center, Boston as a Curatorial Opportunity Winner, the Florida Biennial at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, and the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Recent animations have been screened at the 2021 London Independent Film Festival, the 2021 San Francisco International Film Festival, the 2021 T Short Animated Film Festival, the 2021 New York Independent Cinema Awards (awarded Best Animation), the 2021 Amsterdam International Short Film Festival (awarded Best Animation), the 2021 ARTS x SDGS Festival, the Silvermine Arts Center, the 2019 Los Angeles International Film Festival’s IndieShortFest, where their project was nominated for Best Audio Mixing, the 2019 Director’s Circle Festival of Shorts, and will be exhibited at Sarastoa’s SPAACES Gallery in 2022.
