My approach to video art is rooted in an examination of visual perspectives, auditory associations, and text-based explorations. The open-endedness of abstraction is very appealing to me as I attempt to communicate stories that meander and unfold in labyrinthian, collage-like fashion. Spoken word and written text feature heavily in my work, as I seek to investigate truth and fiction in storytelling and the image as it relates to corporeality and memory.
I rely on appropriating source footage from the hive mind of the internet, where I seek out material that has the potential to decompress to reveal hidden subtexts. I undergo a process of editing, remixing, and layering to unlock these complex, allegorical, non-linear narratives that speak to a wide variety of issues and ideas.
As a painter, I am interested in the power of the image on a material level. I am drawn to texture, color, space, and gesture. My training in printmaking contextualizes the reductive processes that remove and obscure information as well as additive processes that utilize filters and scrims sequentially.
